On Riley’s Family Background and History;
If one were to base off of the anime, specifically, the eleventh Pokemon movie, it can be noted that Riley bears a striking similarity to Sir Aaron, save for their manner of dressing. Though I should say that I’m building Riley’s character from his in-game role and personal speculations alone (his appearance in the anime doesn’t contribute much knowledge about him—), I find the aforementioned connection with this ancient figure quite necessary to start off with.
The very fact that Sir Aaron existed in the past is a very intriguing subject for Riley.
Having gained the title Knight of Cameron Palace and “Guardian of Aura”, it can be said that Sir Aaron has truly mastered the power over the elusive life force. That, and he has mentored over his Lucario, a Pokemon well-known for its use of Aura. He is the most well recorded Aura user in the medieval times of Rota, though unfortunate it is that few of those records survived. What little knowledge he can uncover about the knight, Riley believes, will help him in his personal quest to further understand the Aura itself.
It’s plausible that Sir Aaron came from a family whose members all had some power over Aura, and the genetic trait passed on. It just so happened that he was the best at controlling said skill and managed to master it— his siblings, given that he had any, could not achieve the same feat. It’s unlikely that Sir Aaron fathered a child, as he was a knight bound to the Palace’s servitude; and as having died at a rather young age and could not pass on the knowledge, the control over Aura began seeing a decline in the generations that passed on his family until it reached but a total minimum.
Having lost some of the once acclaimed power and influence in Rota, most of the ancestral family traveled from Rota, Kanto to Canalave City in the Sinnoh region to live a more peaceful life. There, the next generations settled for good and even wed with locals, started anew, and achieved new found plaudit through their tenacity.
I’m only proposing that he is an indirect descendant though, when came Riley’s generation— it wasn’t until he was born did the power of Aura resurface again. At a young age, roughly 5 years young, he manifested some of the Aura’s ability his parents only believed to be myth; mainly by reading other people’s Auras, he is able to predict actions or react accordingly. Because of this, plus the fact that he roots from a rather influential family, Riley had been privately tutored. It had been a pleasant experience [often, he spends his time reading, a hobby he’s clearly grown up with] though admittedly, it was lonely with no other person his age to play with. To make up for that loss, he was given a Riolu egg by his parents, and the Pokemon became his constant companion.
In his pre-teens, he started gaining a little more freedom, often going out of the house on his own, though still limited to the city’s territories. However, with his sheltered life, he was a mischievous young man. At 16, he’s managed to defeat the Sinnoh league and grow as an individual in the process. At the age range of 17 to 20 years, he met Byron and eventually, his son Roark; by this time, he’s grown considerably more mature. At 21, he set out on his personal goal to find out more about Aura, and master it.
Currently, he is 24, still travelling, or otherwise staying at Iron Island to continue his training.
